How are the exchange programes in the USA?

Hi I would like to know how are the exchange programs and if the exchange student are well received, and everything you can say about it.How are the exchange programes in the USA?There are a LOT of exchange programs to the US -- over a thousand, but they are not all created equal. The best ones are endorsed by the US Department of State and CSIET, which is an organization that regulates exchange organizations.

Doing an exchange to the United States is an incredibly valuable experience, especially if you want to improve your English, and learn more about both the world, and yourself. Being an exchange student is a growing experience -- you will learn so much!

In terms of being accepted, it depends on where you go. Most students don't go to large cities, which is actually good -- those cities and schools are large and already have an international population, which generally means exchange students blend in to the background, and you may not feel very recognized by people. Smaller towns, on the other hand, can provide the opposite experience -- you may be the only exchange student around, and be a superstar! Exchange students have been known to become the hero of the football team, the star of the school play, you name it.

By and large, families who take in exchange students are really excited to have you. Host families in the US receive no money for hosting, so you know they are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. Many Americans don't have the opportunity to travel, and so you are bringing the world to them! They will not only show you the American way of life, but will want to know all about your culture, too.

Now, there are some requirements for coming to the United States, just so you are prepared. You must be able to speak English well -- my organization has a scale of 1 to 10 and you must score a 4 or above. You must also have a C average or higher at your school at home, and must also get a C average or higher when you are in the US. You will go through a competitive screening process that involves an application, several interviews, references, and a review of your academics. An exchange program costs, on average, $9,000 to $11,000, depending on your country and currency. Once you are accepted, your organization will find you a host family and get you enrolled in school. Exchange students agree to several things when they come to the United States, which includes following the rules of their host families (including curfews and chores), not drinking any alcohol, no drugs and no sexual activity while they are abroad.

You should check out www.ef.com and pick the country you are from to read more about studying abroad! A representative from your country sales office can tell you even more.
