How could I get the chance to be a foreign exchange student?

I Would love to become a foreign exchange student somewhere for a semester next year. How do people get to do that? How could I get the chance to be a foreign exchange student? This is an awesome opportunity for you! However, if possible, I recommend a year program as it will really help with the language. Language immersion is one of the biggest benefits of an exchange.

First you need to find a program. You can find a list of those certified to operate in the U.S. at www.csiet.org. Also check with your school counselor. An organization is only as good as it's local people!

THen you need to realize this is expensive and figure out how to pay for it. The program fees are around $5,000 - $8,000 plus monthly expenses. Rotary is the cheapest, but most competitive. Most organizations offer scholarships, but be aware that the application deadline will probably be late fall.

You should be taking a language! Any one will do, but if you are wanting to go to France or the French part of Switzerland, you will need to have had two years of French!

Check out www.exchangestudentworld.com. That's a new site jam packed with lots of helpful info on becoming an exchange student and what to do when it happens!

Good luck! How could I get the chance to be a foreign exchange student? You should go see your school counselor for packets and information. Or, if you take a foreign language, talk to your teacher. How could I get the chance to be a foreign exchange student?I know different schools may have different groups. My school had AFS. You should go to your school and ask them if they have any foreign exchange programs. If they do not, you should look into AFS. Chances are a school in your area will have it and would be able to send you somewhere for a semester, year or even just for the summer.

Good luck! I hope you figure out what you need.
