How close to your exchange do you have to be to get fast broadband?

I live about 1 and a half miles from my telephone exchange and I've been told i can only get 1 MB download speed. How close do you have to be to get faster speeds and also how far away is everyone else and what kind of speeds do you get?How close to your exchange do you have to be to get fast broadband?You may live 1.5 miles from the CO, but the cables may not take a direct route to reach you. The cables may be longer.

%26quot;If you are more than about two miles from the central office, you won't be able to get high speed DSL.%26quot;

%26quot;If you are close to the central office, they can use a high frequency signal at a low voltage, and keep it quiet. But the lower the voltage, the harder it is for your DSL modem to hear (and vice versa). So, the speed possible with DSL is very much related to your distance from the Central Office. %26quot;How close to your exchange do you have to be to get fast broadband?they do say that to get maximum advertised speed you would have to sleep in the exchangeHow close to your exchange do you have to be to get fast broadband?600 yards and I get 8mb :-)How close to your exchange do you have to be to get fast broadband?for the top speeds really you need to be within half a mile.

1mb does seem rubbish to say your 1 and a half miles away. i live 3 and a quarter from mine and i get 2.5 mb
