How much does it cost to run a Microsoft Exchange Server?

If you purchase Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 (which is a fixed price), it seems to come with Exchange Server 2007 and possibly 5 accounts for free. So, if you operate the server in-house, is there a monthly fee (other than registering a domain) associated with exchange? Do you have to purchase and pay monthly for client exchange licenses (CAL)? Thanks! How much does it cost to run a Microsoft Exchange Server?Ive installed a few sbs2003 servers.

if you are just going to use the 5 cals, you shoud only have to buy yearly cals. You will also need a seperate office license for all systems that are going to connect to the exchange server.

the cool this bout sbs 2003 is that it comes with rww and owa. if you configure owa, then your 5 people can remote into your exchange server to check their email. its pretty cool and easy to setup. i believe you just need to forward port 443 to the ip address of the server.

ohh yeah, you will need to get a static ip address from your Isp, and a cheap router/firewall to do the port forwarding.

other then that you should be good to go. i would suggest you also purchase some sort of spam protection for your exchange server, because if not, you are going to get hit hard by spam. Symantec spam works great, but if you dont want to pay for it, you can also contact any email hosting company in your town and see if you can use them as a gateway.

hope that helpsHow much does it cost to run a Microsoft Exchange Server? He could also keep his dynamic IP and sign up for a service like DynDns.org as well....just an option.
